2 Truths and a Lie/Scavenger Hunt Team Names

  • "My Values" Note

Look through these hints if you haven't figured out what's special about the "My Values" Note.

    Hint 1

Read the values carefully, paying attention to the first letter of each word.

    Hint 2

Take the first letter of each word and combine them.

    Solution

The first letter of each word spells out: secretromeodotcom

    Go to the website www.secretromeo.com.

  • 2 Truths and a Lie/Scavenger Hunt Team Names

Go through these hints if you're not sure who wrote what two truths and a lie and/or if you're not sure who's on what scavenger hunt team.

In these hints, the different '2 truths and a lie' papers will be referenced as follows:

First paper = Top left (starts off "I want to have 6 kids")

Second paper = Top center ("I published a poetry book)

Third paper = Top right ("I have eight tattoos")

Fourth paper = Bottom left ("I've seen Superbad")

Fifth paper = Bottom center ("I've been vegan")

Sixth paper = Bottom right ("I've had 5 corgis")

    Hint 1

Read Elise's witness statement and the "Phil has..." Note.

    Hint 2

Elise's witness statement matches the handwriting on the fifth paper.

Claire's handwriting (from the "Phil has" note) matches the handwriting on the third paper. We know Claire wrote the "Phil has..." note because she was partnered with Phil for the scavenger hunt.

    Hint 3

The teams for the scavenger hunt are:

    • Phil and Claire
    • Lenny and Brynn
    • Isaiah and Elise

In Elise's witness statement, she says she finished the scavenger hunt. Only two teams finished the scavenger hunt (se the Scavenger hunt maps). Which team were Isaiah and Elise on?

    Hint 4

Elise and Isaiah were on "Man's Best Friend." The handwriting for Man's Best Friend matches Elise's handwriting.

The handwriting for the other two teams (McLovins and The Romantics) matches which papers?

(As a reminder, Elise is paper #5, and Claire is paper #3).

    Hint 5

The handwriting for The Romantics matches paper number two, and the handwriting for McLovins matches paper number four.

    So, we have:

    Paper #1: Unknown

Paper #2: Member of the Romantics

    Paper #3: Claire

    Paper #4: Member of McLovins

Paper #5: Elise (Man's Best Friend)

    Paper #6: Unknown

Who is paper number two? If you're not sure, think back to the "My Values" Note.

You should also be able to guess who paper number six is.

    Hint 6

Lenny is paper number two. He writes poetry (secretromeo.com). Lenny is on The Romantics' team.

Isaiah is paper number six. Isaiah is on the "Man's Best Friend" team with Elise, and paper #6 says "I've had 5 corgis".

    We know:

    Paper #1: Unknown (Unknown Team)

    Paper #2: Lenny (The Romantics)

    Paper #3: Claire (Unknown Team)

    Paper #3: Unknown (Unknown Team)

Paper #5: Elise (Man's Best Friend)

Paper #6: Isaiah (Man's Best Friend)

What team is Claire on? What team is Phil on?

Remember the three teams are: McLovins, Man's Best Friend, The Romantics.

Elise and Isaiah are on Man's Best Friend, and Lenny is on The Romantics.

The two unknowns are Brynn and Phil. But we know that Brynn and Lenny are on the same team and Phil and Claire are on the same team. Which means that Claire cannot be on The Romantics (because Lenny is on it) or Man's best friend (because Elise and Isaiah are on it). That means that Claire must be on the McLovins team.

    Hint 7

Claire and Phil are on the McLovin team.

We know this because there are only three teams, and the three pairs are: Lenny/Brynn, Elise/Isaiah, Claire/Phil.

Elise/Isaiah are on Man's Best Friend, and Lenny (and therefore Brynn) are on The Romantics. So Claire/Phil must be on McLovins.

Which paper is Brynn's and which is Phil's?

    So far, we have:

Paper #1: Phil or Brynn (McLovins or The Romantics)

    Paper #2: Lenny (The Romantics)

    Paper #3: Claire (McLovin)

Paper #3: Phil or Brynn (McLovins or The Romantics)

Paper #5: Elise (Man's Best Friend)

Paper #6: Isaiah (Man's Best Friend)

    Solution

Brynn is paper number one and Phil is paper number four. We can figure this out because Brynn's lie, "I hate rom-coms," makes sense with the team name "The Romantics." And Phil's truth, i.e. "I've seen Superbad over 20 times," makes sense with the McLovins team name.

The final papers and team names are:

    Paper #1: Brynn (The Romantics)

    Paper #2: Lenny (The Romantics)

    Paper #3: Claire (McLovin)

    Paper #3: Phil (McLovins )

Paper #5: Elise (Man's Best Friend)

Paper #6: Isaiah (Man's Best Friend)

  • "Bestie" Texts

Read through these hints if you're not sure who the Bestie text messages are between or who they are referencing ("Shakespeare" and "Klutz").

    Hint 1

Make sure you've fully explored the "My values" note.

    Hint 2

Read the Vancouver Chronicle article carefully.

    Hint 3

The text messages are between two girls. In Elise's witness statement, she notes that Claire is new this year.

    Hint 4

The "My Values" Note reveals a secret website: www.secretromeo.com

Read the following poems carefully: destruction, empty promises, broken dreams, tongue biter, for her.

Who wrote these poems, and who are they about? Read the Vancouver Chronicle carefully.

    Hint 5

Lenny wrote these poems. They're about Brynn and Isaiah. Lenny and Isaiah had a business that went under, and Lenny blames Isaiah. He feels like he can't provide for Brynn because of what happened to the business.

The "Bestie" text messages reference similar things—a business going under, not being able to start a family etc.

    Solution

Brynn wrote the "Bestie" text messages to Elise. In them, Brynn vents about how she can't start a family with Lenny because of their financial issues, which Brynn thinks are Isaiah's fault. Elise agrees and is sympathetic. .

"Shakespeare" is Lenny and "Klutz" is Isaiah.

  • Never Have I Ever

Go through these hints if you're not sure why the 'Never Have I Ever' photograph is significant.

    Hint 1

Do you know who wrote 'Never have I ever stolen a friend's girlfriend'?

If not, make sure you've decrypted the note with red writing first.

    Hint 2

Read the note that starts off with "Phil has..." carefully. If you're not sure who wrote this note, read Elise's witness statement carefully.

    Solution

The note that starts off with "Phil has..." is written by Claire (we know this because she was paired up with Phil for the scavenger hunt.) In the note, Claire mentions that Phil got really weird about a personal "Never have I ever" that he wrote down. She says that Phil stared Isaiah down after Isaiah refused to drink (after Phil's "Never Have I Ever" was read out loud. )

The most personal "Never have I ever" is the "Never have I ever stolen a friend's girlfriend." Phil wrote this.

  • Exam Confirmation

Go through these notes if you're not sure who wrote the nursing exam.

    Hint 1

Make sure you've figured out the significance of the "My Values" note and also the "Bestie" texts.

    Hint 2

    Read the Vancouver Chronicle carefully.

    Hint 3

In the Vancouver Chronicle, it says that Lenny plans to go back to school. In the "Bestie" text messages, Brynn writes "I should be the one nursing right now, not him."

    Solution

    The exam confirmation is Lenny's.

Lenny went back to school to become a nurse after his and Isaiah's business failed. When Brynn says she should be the one nursing right now, not him (not Lenny), there's a double meaning—Brynn wants to be nursing (i.e. be a mother), but instead Lenny is in NURSING school.
